Waterbury Area Food Shelf and The Ice Center have teamed up to bring you Free Public Skating. The first Saturday of each month The Ice Center will offer free public skating to community members who bring in a non-perishable food item for the Food Shelf. This is our way of saying Thanks! for being part of a great community and supporting us for the past six years. At the same time let's show our support to those in need. Next FREE skate is July 3rd.

Open Pick Up Hockey is here! What a way to start the weekend! The Ice Center is offering a regular drop in hockey game each Friday night from 8 - 9 pm for skaters 2nd year PeeWee and older. Rink Rules are in place for your safety and for the sake of the community! Please take a minute to get familiar with these rules so we can keep The Ice Center a place where you want to come back to!

  • No street hockey allowed inside the rink
  • Please do not get on the ice until the Zamboni gates are closed
  • Parents / coaches / players: please check the locker rooms and pick up after the team prior to leaving the rink
  • No spitting on the benches or in the locker rooms; it is REALLY GROSS!
  • Please check in at the office prior to Public Skating, Stick & Puck Time and Freestyle Ice. You have to pay to play!
  • Please use assigned locker rooms; there is a method to our madness
  • Please get off the ice on time, chances are there is a  group on after you
  • Skate hard & have fun! That's what its all about, right?

Managers  Notes or "Hey, that's my job!"

We thought you might like to know a little more about the "behind the scenes" at The Ice Center. Each week Jay, our Operations Manager and I, Kelly Lilly, Rink Manager,  will bring you a little tidbit to give you the inside scoop. Have you always wanted to know something about the rink and how it works? Let us know and we can address it.

Kelly's Corner:

Would you be my friend?

I used to think that checking a Facbook account while at work was a sure-fire way to get myself fired. Using company time to catch up on my friend's doings or checking out new pictures of friends and family is pretty much frowned upon at any company (unless you work for Facebook!). Now that The Ice Center is on Facebook though I feel like it is my duty to update, post pictures, create events and more every day!

I like my job because the people I work with and for want me to stay connected with our skaters and see what they are doing and what they want us to do here. I benefit from their comments. I also like sharing ideas and keeping in touch. I am meeting new Waterbury (and other) residents and getting to know the area better.

Take for example Bridgeside Books. My friend Hiata Corduan owns and operates the cozy bookstore on Stowe Street and I never would have known had I not seen her post on Facebook. Now we are "friends" again through this network and we can keep eachother updated on our businesses. I am also recruiting her for skating lessons!

Next time you are at the rink and see the Ice Center's Facebook page up, know that I am not slacking but actually working on making this rink more well known in this area and beyond and trying to get more feedback from you, our customers, on how we can make this place even better!

I am on Facebook because, "Hey, that's my job!"
